Finding Your Own Fashion Style

In a world extraordinarily focused on outward appearance, we need only to open a magazine or turn on our televisions to see the latest and greatest fashion trend; it walks the red carpet, checks out a movie premier, and heads out nightly to the hottest restaurants. And we, as a society always mindful of what’s popular, follows dutifully along, eager to purchase the “must have” item of the season. But, ultimately, the fashion style that works best for us is that which looks good on our particular body and reflects our very individual personality.

As anyone who follows the fashion industry will tell you, trends come and go. What is one year’s hot item is the next season’s fashion “don’t.” Designers present their newest lines and before you know it stores are carrying these clothes in every conceivable variation. And then, just as quickly, they’re gone. It’s almost impossible to keep pace. Luckily, the fashion style that makes the most sense on an individual level is the fashion style that reflects who we are as people; and that never goes out of style.

The most important thing to remember is that just because a particular fashion style is popular at the moment does not mean that it will look good on your particular body. Wearing something just for the sake of wearing it ultimately goes against the principles of fashion. A fashion style that you choose to wear should be something that accentuates your positives, downplays your negatives, and complements the overall line of your body.

Take the time to get to know your body and what styles work best with it. Assess your body objectively; if you have trouble spots, look for cuts and fabrics that camouflage what you need them to camouflage; if you are on the shorter side, look for a fashion style that elongates your body; and always choose colors that complement your skin tone.

Once you find a style that works – stick with it and add your personal touches to reflect your personality; that is the best fashion style you can possibly wear.

50′s Clothing – Can You Still Find Pieces From This Fashion Era?

This era had some of the best fun fashion style. Style that has made a big come back…..if it ever left.

50′s clothing consists of pedal pushers, what we might call capri pants today. It consisted of women wearing figure flattering dresses that were taken in at the waist and full at the bottom. Think of the dresses Lucy Ricardo wore.  I Love Lucy is a perfect show to learn about the 50′s.

50′s clothing for the men consisted of jeans that were rolled up at the bottom along with white T-Shirts. Letterman’s jackets were worn by the younger generation, while older men wore suits more often then men today do.

You can think of Marilyn Monroe and her beautiful figure flattering skin tight dresses. This look represented the glamorous side of the 50′s. At award shows you’d often see movie stars dressed in these type of elegant dresses.

On the other hand, a lot of people today think of 50′s clothing as costumes. Whether it’s Halloween or themed parties, 50′s clothing is very much sought after. Some people want to be a 50′s cheerleader, Greaser (think of the movie Grease) and in general just the look of the younger 50′s generation with the pony tails for the girls and greased back hair for the boys.

It is not as hard as it may seem to find 50′s clothing today. Thrift Stores are a wonderful start. People are constantly donating clothing, and sometimes that includes their parents’ or grandparents belongings’. 50′s clothing pops up many times in these stores because the elderly generation were around in the 50′s.

Vintage clothing stores are fantastic! They may be a bit more expensive than your thrift store; however, since they specialize in vintage clothing you will have a much better chance at finding what you’re looking for versus taking a chance at a thrift store.

And last but certainly not least is eBay. It’s not new that sellers thrive on selling items like 50′s clothing on eBay. Some people specialize in this category alone and therefore there is always a supply available. You can search using keywords like “50′s clothing” or even more specific like “50′s jeans” etc.

The 50′s era was innocent, fun and refreshing. Whether you’re dressing up for a party or including some pieces in your current wardrobe, the nostalgia the 50′s brings is certainly one that is uplifting.

It’s no wonder people feel so good when they think of the 50′s.

Christian Rings – Fashion Or Passion For Faith?

Some people look at Christian rings as fashion while others are purely passionate about the significance of wearing such jewelry. Other people incorporate both meanings into the Christian rings they wear on their fingers. Wearing these accessories not only exhibit your fashion sense, but also showcases your faith in God. It shows your love for the person who saved you.

There are many kinds of Christian rings available. Some of the most common ones, of course, are engagement or wedding rings. Since marriage is a special occasion, couples are interested in having something that also makes a statement and shows how special their love for one another is. Getting a Christian ring for your wife or husband to be is the perfect testament to your commitment, love and faith in God and each other.

One kind of Christian ring that is also getting popular with teenagers and young adults is the purity ring. Wearing a purity ring means that the person has taken a vow to stay pure until he or she is married. This has become popular for teenagers especially since popular young celebrities like the Jonas Brothers have outwardly proclaimed their vows showcasing their rings to match.

As you can see, Christian jewelry or rings are not only purely for fashion, they can showcase a deep meaning along with them. Each person that wears them should understand what it stands for and why they are wearing them. Christian rings can have different meanings, but one thing is clear, it is a symbol of the love and dedication that a person has towards God, himself, and other people.

Spring-Summer 2010 Fashion Trends

Fashion trends are, for the most part, showcased to the world on the runway. However, trend forecasting agencies are responsible for much of the fabric choices, colors, and styles that find their way onto those same runways. The French trend agency, NellyRodi’s four scenarios for the spring and summer of 2010 have been released and can be a huge help when deciding which style and color handbags to purchase and pull together to be current, trendy, and stylish for the coming year.

The current economy has a large influence on fashion, with trends reflecting “idealistic thoughts about the future.” Colors for the first scenario, entitled “light tech”, include acidic tints of green, turquoise, orange, yellow, pink, and veiled gray. Fabric choices for this set were mostly synthetic, such as taffeta, jacquard, coated canvas, and thick linen. “Clean, precise graphics”, miniature designs, and textures make this trend perfect for showcasing your handbag. The synthetic fabric options make this trend even sweeter since cleaning your bag will be a breeze. Messenger bags are particularly suited for graphics and designs. Colored bags can make a bland outfit really pop, so investing in some of the sweet and sour colors of this season is an easy way to liven up your wardrobe.

“Ode to nature” was the next scenario trend forecasters put together. Light, gauzy fabrics both layered and alone set a romantic atmosphere. Tulle, crepe, voile, muslin, and silk shantung all flow beautifully with the soft, faded colors of pastels. Taupe and mauve bring an unexpected pop of intensity to the powdery palette. Handbags in mauve and beige will pair perfectly with the talcum shades of spring. The muted colors of nature give way to the warm, vibrant colors of “southern folk” in the next trend scenario. Beige is again featured, along with ochre, clay, reds, plums, and cactus green. Inspired by South American landscapes, cottons, lace, and macramé decorated with ornaments, appliqués, and embroidery echo the colorful chaos of South American culture. Stripes and boldly patterned handbags are a trendy choice for this scenario. Larger bags such as totes and messenger bags will make especially bright statements. Fading slightly from their sun-kissed opulence, muffled tones of beige, khaki, and blue are accented by yellow, purple, sky blue, and red in the final scenario, “popular appeal”. A 70s vintage look full of faded cotton, denim, and fleece offer a more relaxed fashion. For a “femme fatale look…chiffons, crepes, and satins” are presented. I can just see the sky blue satin clutch paired with a faded blue. Stunning. This coming year promises to be full of fun and fabulous fashions that are likely easily pulled together with items already in your closet. Adding trendy handbags will stretch your wardrobe and highlight how current and fashionable you are.

Home Decorating Makes A House Your Home

Home Decorating and even holiday decorating are more a testament to our continuing affluence than anything.  Back in years gone by, our homes were considered places to stay and live, not as an extension of our own personalities.  Back then, homes were also built all as custom homes, that is, the age of the tract housing boom had not yet taken root.  Therefore, even if the older homes were not as lavishly decorated, they still maintained a level of distinction due to the custom building of that era.

Moving into the late 20th century, WW-2 had just ended and dropped a lot of young men and women back into the country with new found abilities to afford their own homes via the GI bill.  This huge demand caused the housing booms that resulted all cross the country.  The good thing was that these homes were inexpensive but the negative was that the tract home was born.  thousands of cookie cutter sameness soon dotted the land almost everywhere people were interested in living.  This in turn drove the need for some type of distinction to make the new homes somehow different and a statement of their new owners.  The age of home decorating had finally come to the working class.

A home is cozier and more comfortable than any other place. We build our homes with the utmost care and sincerity. After all, it is a place where we spend most of our lives. Home decorating means a lot to the owner. It also demands hard work and devotion, as it is not an easy task. Decorating includes both the interior as well as exterior aspects.

Initially, home decorating started off simply as changing the paint or wallpaper but has led to a boom in furnishings, artwork, collectibles and even flooring materials.  Just the range of available flooring options is incredible.  You can choose from marble, granite tiles, bricks, slates, concrete, or steel. To add more color, suitable carpets can be spread. Rugs can be used to complement them.  So before, basic flooring was acceptable, in our quest for making our home truly ours, we have needed to remodel, rebuild, rework and otherwise redesign almost everything in our homes.

Walls, pillars, and other standouts can be decorated using artifacts, paintings or wall hangings. Modern art is becoming a common choice.  And it’s not just the living room, but every part of the home now gets the star treatment.  This includes, new rooms for babies, teens, young adults, toddlers and children.

In the end, what we really want is to open the door after a hard days work and say….Home at Last!

Home Decorating Projects

If you’re seriously interested in knowing about home decorating, you need to think beyond the basics. This informative article takes a closer look at things you need to know about home decorating.

Most Americans are spending a fortune decorating their homes for Christmas, Easter, and Thanksgiving when they can follow these simple tips and do it for less. Home improvement projects can be budgeted and planned. A person can feel and see if his house needs remodeling and renovation. He may plan and work on his own improvement project as long he is capable and skillful enough to do the work.

There are easy tasks and repairs that require a minimum of time and skill. To save more money and avoid purchasing new materials which are not needed avoid hiring a contractor if possible.

Here are some factors to consider when doing your own the home decorating.

1. Consider the free time available for decorating and styling the interior of the house. Save money by doing the repairs and renovations yourself.  Home improvement projects can be time consuming especially if your skills are limited.

2. Before going to the market or appliance center, identify your priorities for decorating the house. Visiting websites and browsing through home improvement magazines that highlight great living rooms, kitchens, dining rooms, etc. can give a home owner an idea about different themes. Home owners can also opt to buy cheaper alternatives for home decorations by buying items that are on sale or pre-owned.

Truthfully, the only difference between you and home decorating experts is time. If you’ll invest a little more time in reading, you’ll be that much nearer to expert status when it comes to home decorating.

3. Purchase inexpensive tools and materials needed for home improvement and decoration. Estimate the expenses that will be incurred by the remodeling and decoration of the home. It is important to use a budget so that you have an idea of how much money will be needed and spent for the remodeling.

4. Assess your skills in styling and decorating before starting the project: if the task requires a high level of artistry that you do not possess the end result may not be the one you desired and you may spend even more money to correct the work.

5. If the last option is to hire a professional interior designer, determine his background and work experience before hiring. Consider designers who are referred by a friend or by your neighbors. You can ask for discounts and/or alternative materials to be used that are within your budget.

6. Consider the size of the house before buying furniture. Rearranging the furniture can be the cheapest way to decorate your home. Instead of buying a sofa, consider buying two loveseats especially if space is limited.

7. Determine the specific areas where repairs are needed: repairs can range from leaking pipes, clogged drains, to minor carpentry repairs. These repairs are easily done and can be fixed without hiring technicians, plumbers, or carpenters that may charge large fees. When decorating the home, it is not necessary to do all the parts of the house. Most people focus on the living room, kitchen, and dining room. In decorating the kitchen, buying refrigerator magnets, hand towels, or dishcloths at a discount is easy. Buying wholesale, when possible, will give the buyer huge discounts in comparison to buying in retail stores.

Everyone loves a nice appearing home because it reflects the personality of the homeowner. Going home at the end of long working day is worth looking forward to if the home is pleasant and orderly.

Don’t limit yourself by refusing to learn the details about home decorating. The more you know, the easier it will be to focus on what’s important.
