It is amazing how the mediums of communication can provide news, as in first heard, first eyed ones! And what more can a basketball fan wants than first hand basketball news? This is the glory humans have achieved by seeking modern devices than those that are in the older days. In those times, people will still have to wait for the morning post before they get the news unless they are in the event.

But if they are, the news is still contained until they are able to relay on the message when they get home. Now, there’s no need to go events when there are more important appointments at the same time. All you need is to have the right mediums.

Here are some of the most valuable ways of communications that can bring the news first hand:

a.) Internet. Get connected and access the world in few steps and clicks on the mouse. The news is in your fingertips with this latest innovation in communication. The web is the fastest and the most accurate medium of communication. You can get first rate news of different topics right when it happens or as it is happening. Only that you have to be meticulous too as the web is easily accessed by anybody.

It can spread fictitious events and other malicious stories. Ensure that you get your basketball news through reputed sites and terminals so you will enjoy the benefits of being connected with the web.

b.) Television. Televisions nowadays are already very effective form of media. In older years, TVs are just a form of entertainment as it is never effective in providing fast and first rate news. But true, it is more effective than newspapers because this form comes out a day after that makes the news irrelevant as it is no longer fresh. So if you are among the avid fans of basketball news, its no longer fresh when it comes to you but a mere reecho of the talks you’ve been hearing from those that came from the venue.

c.) Newspaper. The newspaper is the longest running form of events provider worldwide. Ever since man had the ability to write, it was used to circulate something important. It has many columns too so you get the chance to have something about current events, entertainment, and sports news. They are printed as well as pictures are added so you also feel the same tremor as those that are in the event venue. Only that it is printed every after a day of the event-not news anymore.

d.) Phone. Another form of basketball news and mews in general is the phone. This is the fastest way of communication although it lacks the transparency because the receiver is not able to see the happenings, relying merely on the caller. So if the caller is exaggerating the news or being plain even if the happenings are tremendous, the news is at stake.

The continued improvement of basketball news carriers are to the benefits of each and everyone, fanatic or not. It is for the receiver to choose which is best from the above mention. But then it is also very important to ensure that the chosen form of communication is highly reputable. Doing so will also ensure accuracy of the news at hand.

With printed newspapers losing subscribers every day, people are finding other options to stay up to date with their news. Newspaper sales reached their peak in 1970 when approximately 62 million newspapers were sold in the country every day. However, with the population in the U.S. on the rise, newspapers sales are not keeping up. It is estimated that approximately 55 million newspapers are sold every day.

In the 1920’s the average newspaper purchased per household peaked at 1.3. In the 1970’s that figure started to dip to below 1 paper per house. By the year 2000, the number dropped to .53 newspapers per household.

One reason is that people just don’t read as much as they used to. People seem to be busier then ever and just don’t take the time to read any more.

Many are switching their news habits by watching the big three network news and cable news programs in place of the newspaper. With so many options on TV news, it seems that there is a news station for every taste.

While many “older” adults still prefer newspapers, “young” adults have seemed to prefer to get their news from the internet. TV news still is the most accessed news source, but the internet is quickly becoming the favorite source of news, especially in the form of news blogs, news portals and online newspapers.

Online news is gaining popularity every day. Virtually every major newspaper has a version of an online newspaper. Pioneers like Mike Drudge have been leading the way in independent news providers. And there are countless news blogs across the web.

Part of what makes news blogs so popular is that they can be used as an RSS feed. This allows the news feed to be used on other blogs across the web and also allows the news feed to be read by many more viewers. People also love news blogs because you can leave comments and this creates a dialogue on the story which is a great way to feel like you are a part of the story.

Although newspapers may be on the decline, it does not mean that people have stopped reading the news, only where they read their news from. So it seems that if you are not getting your news online, you may soon be in the minority.

The world is changing around us. Don't let it pass you by. Stay up to date with local, national & international current events. How are you getting your news? Why are newspapers still the media type of choice for most people?

In the world today, we are constantly faced with new world events. We hear about how terrorist bombings are going on all over the world, about stocks going up and down, and about crime offenders being reprimanded. These kinds of issues are important to all of us…it affects our economy, our way of life, and mostly, our future.

What goes on around us whether worldwide, nationally, or even just in our community, is the topic of many conversations. You can be in your elevator, at the office water cooler, or your maybe even in your grocery store line-up, people like to talk about who’s being voted for what, which football team to cheer on, and what the weather is going to be like on the weekend. Being informed on these topics makes us part of the community.

How can we stay up-to-date? There is always the radio. There are several stations available on the radio that we can tune in to while commuting to work and running errands. Unfortunately, many of these radio programs do not give you a full coverage. You are probably not commuting long enough to listen to the whole program, and there are so many commercials!

Then there’s your 6 o’clock news on the television. Let’s face it…we are busy people. The children have after-school activities, we have social events, the dogs need to be walked, gym, dinner needs to be made, then there’s that thing called work. We no longer have the evenings free to ourselves to sit on the couch and watch the news.

Your best option? Definitely a newspaper. With the newspaper, you can choose what sections you want to read. You can skip the ads that do not interest you, and it is very portable! You can take it with you to read at your leisure. You even get comics and puzzles to do in most newspapers! Subscribing to a newspaper offers the most convenience.

With a newspaper subscription, you can be assured that your newspaper arrives at your door and is ready to be read at YOUR liberty. You have the benefit of not having to tune in at any certain time, you can put it down when you want if you are interrupted, you can even cut sections out for memorabilia!

As 2009 comes to an end, it seems that the year is determined to be defined by celebrity scandal. When Tom Cruise jumped on Oprah Winfrey’s couch in late 2005 we had no idea that this seemingly goofy incident would not only affect the career and bank-ability of arguably Hollywood’s biggest star, but also create a whole new cottage industry of internet blogging around celebrity misfortunes.

With each miss-step, there are thousands of web sites and bloggers there to comment, post videos and rehash every element of the celebrity’s downfall. Of course, the bloggers aren’t totally to blame, as celebrities seem to have gone out of their way to make this year one that is notorious for famous people making famously offensive, obnoxious, or just plain stupid mistakes. When Mel Gibson was pulled over in Malibu California in July of this year for suspicion of drunk driving and broke into an anti-Semitic tirade, it was hard to imagine that he was just getting things started. Since that time Michael Richards, who played Cosmo Kramer on TV’s Seinfeld, was filmed screaming racial slurs at a Los Angeles comedy club and Danny DeVito has made an appearance on TV talk show The View seemingly intoxicated and doing a rambling impression of the President of the United States. And that’s not even counting the “Celebutants”, those young female celebrities that are more notable for their party-going and revolving door of boyfriends then for any artistic accomplishment. Over recent weeks the internet has been a flutter with photos of panty-less Britney Spears and Paris Hilton. Even scarier for L.A. drivers (and society) is the recent arrest of Nicole Richie for driving under the influence of a mixture of drugs. What is seemingly more notable from Mr. Gibson and Ms. Richie’s arrests is the danger that they not only put themselves in, but other people. Say what you will about Tom Cruise, but the only person who could have been injured that day was Oprah.

Of course, for many celebrities, specifically the young Celebutants with little else creatively to rely on, getting in the news is part of (if not completely) the point. It is certainly no surprise that when Yahoo! recently released its list of top searches for 2006, 4 of the top 10 searches were young female celebrities in the news for their break-ups and miscues more than anything else. Britney Spears was number one, with Jessica Simpson, Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan rounding out the top 10.

Lohan is the perfect example herself of a scandal queen. Currently news about her stint in AA and rumors of her cutting her own wrists punctuate sites like Babes Of Hollywood (www.babesofhollywood.com) which focuses on the latest happenings of Hollywood’s most popular females. And there is also the role of technology in all of this as well. With web sites easily being created by even the most novice surfer, camera phones at nearly everyone’s disposal and video becoming ever prevalent on the web, the amount of content and the ability to distribute it has never been stronger. One can only imagine the effect that video phone in the comedy club in Los Angeles had on Michael Richards and his life and career. Much like the tree that falls in the forest with no one to hear, you have to ask yourself – If Kramer makes racial slurs but nobody is there to record it, does that still make him a racist?

With so much news coming out about health these days, many people may feel a bit overwhelmed. Fortunately, help may be at your fingertips.

With so much news coming out about health these days, many people may feel a bit overwhelmed.

Fortunately, help may be at your fingertips. A new Web site, HealthNewsReview.org, is designed to support excellence in health and medical news reporting by grading stories on accuracy, balance and completeness.

“Health care consumers who use HealthNewsReview.org will learn how to look for evidence in any claim made by any source, including news stories,” said Professor Gary Schwitzer of the University of Minnesota School of Journalism and Mass Communication and publisher of the Web site. “Readers will become not only smarter consumers of health care but smarter consumers of news,” he added.

A team of impartial reviewers at the site assesses the quality of the health stories that run in the nation’s top 50 newspapers, the evening network newscasts, Associated Press wire services and weekly news magazines using a standardized rating system. The team includes medical and public health professionals, journalists and researchers. Funded by the nonprofit Foundation for Informed Medical Decision Making, the site does not provide medical advice-instead it helps readers decipher the often conflicting news about health claims.

“The Foundation for Informed Medical Decision Making believes that health care consumers should have access to the most timely, accurate and unbiased information when making medical decisions,” said Jack Fowler, president of the Foundation. “Since the media play such a significant role in how people obtain much of this information, HealthNewsReview.org is a natural extension of the Foundation’s mission.”

HealthNewsReview.org uses a star system to rate the stories based on different criteria, including: the novelty and availability of the idea; the existence of alternative options; costs of a treatment or procedure; sources of information in developing the story; and quantification of harms and benefits of a treatment or procedure.

The Web site provides information on a variety of topics, including breast cancer research, the latest on children’s vaccines and the value of PSA tests. The site only reviews news stories that make a therapeutic claim about specific treatments, procedures, vitamins, nutritional supplements and diagnostic and screening tests. Does Prozac treat anorexia? Will acupuncture cure hot flashes? Every day, the site looks at news stories and helps readers make sense of information that affects individuals and their friends and family.

You can get a healthy dose of useful information from a new Web site designed to assess health reports.
